The Waterloo Public Library will host a free Story Night on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. inside the historic log house in Waterloo Park as part of the Wonders of Winter light festival, offering drop‑in winter‑themed stories and crafts for families.

The program is listed on the Wonders of Winter festival page as one of three “Cozy Log Cabin” nights hosted by the City of Waterloo Museum during the festival. The listing describes the evening as “free crafts and stories with the Waterloo Public Library in the old log house” and does not list advance registration; Waterloo Public Library’s past log‑cabin listings describe similar sessions as drop‑in.

Wonders of Winter is a volunteer‑run lights festival that has lit up Waterloo Park since 1993 and relies on donations and local service clubs to keep displays running. Long‑time volunteer Dave Hollinger told CityNews earlier this season that the park has “more lights than ever,” and that recent site changes opened up space for new displays. The festival’s log cabin nights bring museum interpretation and library programs into the little 1820 log schoolhouse, adding a warm indoor stop for families walking the lights.

The log house itself is one of Waterloo’s oldest heritage structures, moved into the park in the 1890s and used for community programming by the City of Waterloo Museum. The Waterloo Public Library has run similar “WPL at Wonders of Winter” sessions in past years, making the Dec. 22 Story Night a familiar offering for families who like a quiet craft and story break between the light displays.

Parents and caregivers in Waterloo Region can treat the Story Night as a free, short indoor activity while visiting the festival; the log cabin sits near the main park parking lot off Young Street. For details on hours, accessibility or any last‑minute changes, the festival’s event page is the primary public notice for the Dec. 22 session.
