Statistics Canada is recruiting residents of Watson Lake, Yukon, for temporary enumerator roles for the 2026 Census.
Enumerators are paid $25.87 per hour and will go door-to-door to collect census information from households in the community. Applicants must have reached the age of majority in their province or territory (18 in Yukon), reside in Canada, and be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid work permit.
Most contracts run from March to July 2026. Enumerators must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on average, with the majority of hours scheduled in the evenings and on weekends. People interested in applying can find details on the Canada Job Bank.
An accurate population count affects per‑capita federal and territorial funding for local services. Watson Lake’s population was 1,133 in the 2021 Census, and Statistics Canada and territorial data indicate higher non‑response rates in the area in 2021 — nearly 15.5% for the short‑form and 29.7% for the long‑form — suggesting a risk of undercounting. Hiring local residents is a strategy to improve response rates in remote communities so they receive appropriate funding.
Statistics Canada is also recruiting supervisory roles such as Crew Leaders (pay $31.32 per hour) and related assistant supervisory positions; the Yukon Bureau of Statistics lists current job postings for the territory. These are short‑term positions that pay between $25.87 and $31.32 per hour and provide temporary local income while supporting an accurate count for the community.
