The Town of Watson Lake, Yukon, has postponed curbside garbage collection for the week of February 15 to February 17, 2026, due to severe winter weather. Local officials made the decision because the extreme conditions have made it unsafe for collection crews to work on the streets.

The Town of Watson Lake Public Works department is asking all residents to keep their waste at home for the time being. It is important to keep garbage bins off the roadside to ensure they do not get damaged by snowplows or get in the way of crews clearing the streets.

The town’s heavy equipment is currently being used to prioritize snow removal and road safety. According to municipal services, these secondary tasks like waste pickup are paused until main roads are safe and weather conditions get better.

Mayor Lauren Hanchar and Chief Administrative Officer Cam Lockwood are overseeing the community’s response to the winter storm. Residents should monitor the official town website or the Town of Watson Lake Facebook page for a notice on when garbage collection will start again.
