Homeowners in Watson Lake, Yukon, have until February 15, 2026, to apply for the 2025 Home Owners Grant to lower their property tax costs. This territorial credit helps residents save money on their tax bills, but anyone who did not receive the credit automatically must file an application before the window closes.
According to the Government of Yukon, the grant can cover up to 50 per cent of taxes for most homeowners, with a maximum savings of $450. Residents who are 65 or older are eligible for an increased amount of up to 75 per cent of their property taxes, which is capped at $500.
To qualify for the savings, the property must be the owner’s main home where they lived for at least 184 days during the 2025 calendar year. Most people who paid their taxes on time saw the credit applied to their bill automatically, but those with mortgage company oversights or payment errors need to take action.
Residents can submit their application through the Yukon home owners grant application portal or visit a territorial service centre in person. For those with questions, the Town of Watson Lake office is available to help by phone at 867-536-8000.
Missing the February 15 deadline means homeowners will lose the benefit for the 2025 tax year, as the credit cannot be claimed after this date. Filing on time ensures that residents receive the full tax break they are entitled to for their primary residence.
