The Town of Watson Lake council met on February 17, 2026, to share updates on utilities, road work, and local healthcare services in Watson Lake, Yukon. Mayor Lauren Hanchar and council members met at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers to provide residents with direct information on projects that impact their daily lives.
The meeting highlighted progress on a large modernization project that includes $16 million for water and road improvements across the town. This work also includes a $5.1 million expansion of the sewage lift station, which is being completed with funding from the federal government and the Government of Yukon.
Residents also received information about territorial efforts to bring more doctors to the community. Under a recent medical agreement, new physicians who choose to practice in the area can receive a $125,000 recruitment bonus to help keep the local hospital and medical clinic running smoothly.
To make it easier for people to participate, the town offered Zoom access for those who could not attend the meeting in person. The Town of Watson Lake website provides meeting agendas and instructions for joining future sessions to help neighbors stay updated on local government decisions.
