The Town of Watson Lake, Yukon, has released the agenda for its Committee of the Whole meeting taking place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Residents can attend the meeting in person at the Town Council Chambers or join remotely through a Zoom link provided by the municipality. This meeting serves as a forum for the local government to review administrative reports and discuss town priorities before they reach the regular council floor for a final vote.

The municipality typically posts meeting agendas and digital access instructions on its website the Friday before a meeting. This allows community members to review administrative reports and documents before the Mayor and Council discuss local priorities. Chief Administrative Officer Cam Lockwood and the municipal staff prepare these reports to help the town’s approximately 1,100 residents track decisions regarding housing, infrastructure, and community grants without needing to visit the town office in person.

The current administration, led by Mayor Lauren Hanchar along with councillors Thomas Slager, Norma Puckett, William Whimp, and Denina Paquette, is managing several major projects this year. A key focus for the municipality is the $1.2 million federal Housing Accelerator Fund, which is being used to streamline development and increase housing options in the community through the 2026-2027 period. These sessions allow the council to review how these funds are spent and how they impact local services as the town prepares for the upcoming spring season.

Known as the Gateway to the Yukon, the town uses these planning sessions to have detailed discussions in a less formal setting. The hybrid meeting format, which includes both in-person and Zoom options, was established to make local government more accessible, especially during the winter months when travel can be difficult. While the public can watch the proceedings live, those who wish to speak as a delegation must submit a written request to the Town Clerk by the Thursday before the meeting date to ensure residents have a chance to voice their concerns or ask questions.
