Residents in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, should prepare for snowy weather and a sharp temperature drop starting the morning of February 27, 2026. Environment Canada expects about two centimetres of snow to fall, with overnight wind chill values reaching minus 27.

The temperature is forecast to drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius on Friday night. These conditions can cause frostbite or hypothermia, so people are encouraged to dress in layers and limit their time outside.

Drivers should be careful on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway as light snow and wind can cause low visibility and slippery surfaces. The City of Wetaskiwin will focus on clearing high-traffic roads first, while residential streets are usually only cleared once the snowpack reaches 15 centimetres.

Property owners are reminded that local rules require them to clear snow and ice from their sidewalks within 48 hours after the snow stops. Parents should also watch for updates from Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools regarding bus services, as extreme cold can lead to cancellations.
