The City of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, has launched a new suite of free developmental “Growth Programs” for young children at the Credit Union Spark Centre, beginning in early February 2026. The initiative provides local families with cost-free activities designed to help toddlers and children up to age six develop motor skills and explore through play.

The programs are made possible through a partnership between the City of Weyburn, the Rural Municipality (RM) of Weyburn No. 67, and Whitecap Resources Inc. Funded through a multi-year community investment grant from Whitecap Resources and shared municipal supports, the city has shifted several previously paid activities into this free model to ensure local families can participate regardless of income.

Children can take part in sessions like sensory play and movement workshops held in the facility’s MNP Play Centre (soft play area) and on Mainil Field (indoor turf). According to local reporting, this move is part of a larger effort by local leaders to make the Spark Centre a central hub for the entire region.

These sessions, which include activities such as “Mini Movers,” evolve the facility’s earlier early-childhood offerings (previously marketed under names such as “Tot Time”) into a structured developmental curriculum. DiscoverWeyburn reports the goal is to give kids a consistent place to learn and grow within the community.

The City of Weyburn’s Leisure Services Department will run the sessions, which are available as both drop-in and registered programs. This project is described in the research brief as the first major programming output of the recent cooperation between the City and the RM to share regional recreation services and funding.
