The City of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, has appointed Stephanie Schmidt to the Weyburn Board of Police Commissioners. The appointment is effective January 1, 2026 and was announced during the council cycle on February 3, 2026.
Schmidt replaces Barclay Charlton, who served on the board from 2018–2026 (eight years). The City acknowledged Charlton’s eight years of service through a period of departmental change and growth.
The Board of Police Commissioners provides civilian oversight and direction to the Weyburn Police Service — including oversight of operations, approval of budgets, and input on strategic priorities — consistent with The Police Act, 1990 (Saskatchewan).
Schmidt joins as the Weyburn Police Service has expanded (reaching 24 sworn officers in 2025) and implemented the Safe Public Spaces Bylaw. The board is managing a heightened budget and is in the final year of a three‑year collective bargaining agreement that runs through the end of 2026; Schmidt’s early responsibilities are likely to include oversight of bylaw implementation and participation in preparatory work related to labour negotiations and budgeting for 2027.
