The Weyburn Beavers baseball team held their annual Sports Dinner on February 6, 2026, to raise money for the upcoming summer season in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Community members gathered at McKenna Hall to support the local team through ticket sales and auctions. This event is the main way the non-profit organization pays for its operating costs each year.
The money raised at the dinner will help cover expenses like player recruitment, equipment, and housing. It also pays for the team bus to travel to away games during the 56-game season. The Western Canadian Baseball League season begins on May 28, 2026, when the Beavers return to play at Tom Laing Park.
Guests at the dinner participated in both silent and live auctions featuring sports memorabilia and items donated by local businesses. The evening also included guest speakers who shared stories about their experiences in professional baseball. To help supporters coming from out of town, the Microtel hotel in Weyburn offered special room rates for the night.
Team president Garnet Hansen said the fundraiser is essential for keeping the team running in the community. The support from local sponsors and residents ensures that the team can afford the long trips to play in other cities. Without this successful night in February, the team would struggle to meet its budget for the summer months.
