Mayor Jeff Richards will speak to the community on February 25, 2026, to discuss future growth and building projects in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. The annual presentation will cover how the city plans to spend local tax money and provide updates on major construction like the new Weyburn General Hospital.

A key topic of the meeting will be the city budget, which includes a proposed 6.5 per cent increase in property taxes. According to DiscoverWeyburn, the proposed increase is intended to fund local streets and other infrastructure projects (the city has also flagged water-treatment and utility work in related budget materials). Mayor Richards has said the City of Weyburn is currently dealing with the high price of maintaining basic services and an underlying infrastructure deficit.

Residents will also get a final update on the new hospital, which is expected to open in the summer of 2026. The Government of Saskatchewan reported the facility was approximately 75 per cent complete as of May 23, 2025. The new facility will offer expanded and modernized services intended to improve care for people living in the area.

The presentation will also touch on road repairs, including work on Highway 39 that experienced cost overages in recent budget cycles. The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce is organizing the event to ensure that business owners and neighbours are kept in the loop about where their tax dollars are going.

In addition to roads and healthcare, the city is also focusing on new energy projects to help the local economy grow. This includes council support for a proposed Enbridge wind facility (reported as about 200 megawatts), which is part of a plan to bring more jobs to the region over the coming years.
