On February 3, 2026, the Government of Saskatchewan announced it is providing $238,000 to the Weyburn Police Service to continue funding two Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) officer positions in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

The funding, delivered through the Municipal Police Grants program, will support the two SCAN positions that were announced and hired in 2024 and help the local police department maintain capacity to patrol neighbourhoods and respond to calls from residents.

Community Safety Minister Michael Weger, the MLA for Weyburn-Bengough, said the investment is part of a province-wide effort to strengthen frontline policing and improve response times. Local media coverage noted the funding is intended to help the city manage increasing workloads and bolster specialized safety initiatives.

Weyburn Police Service Chief Brent VanDeSype said the continued provincial support is a significant boost that helps the service better meet the needs of the community. Mayor Jeff Richards also welcomed the investment, saying it will increase frontline visibility and capacity.

The announcement continues a multi-year provincial initiative to add and sustain frontline officers in communities across Saskatchewan under the SCAN program. The two positions funded in Weyburn were originally announced and filled in 2024.
