A 48-year-old Clarington man is facing multiple firearm-related charges after an investigation by the Durham Regional Police Service Gun and Gang Unit into road rage incidents in Courtice. The arrest followed a two-month investigation that began in February 2026, after two motorists reported that a driver had pointed a firearm at them during separate altercations.
On April 1, 2026, investigators, supported by the Tactical Support Unit, carried out a search warrant at a home in Courtice. During the search, police seized a firearm equipped with a prohibited over-capacity magazine. Officers also recovered an SUV that had been reported stolen and had its vehicle identification number altered.
At the time of his arrest, the accused was already subject to three separate court-ordered firearm prohibitions. He has been charged with several offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime. The man was held for a bail hearing, and the case is now before the courts.
This arrest comes amid a broader trend of rising aggressive driving behaviour in Ontario, where road rage incidents have increased by over nine percent since 2020. In an unrelated event on April 2, 2026, police also arrested a 24-year-old man in Ajax following reports of an altercation involving an imitation firearm.
