The Durham District School Board is hosting two virtual information nights early next year to help families prepare students for the transition into high school.
A Grade 8 Student and Parent/Guardian Transition Information Night is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. A second session, aimed at current Grade 9 students and families, titled “30 Credits My Way,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held online.
The events were announced in mid-December and posted across multiple DDSB school news pages, including Whitby Shores Public School. Registration links are provided directly on the school news posts.
The virtual sessions are designed to help students and families understand course planning, graduation requirements and available pathways toward earning an Ontario Secondary School Diploma on time. They are part of the board’s broader 30 Credits My Way initiative, which emphasizes flexible learning options such as eLearning, co-operative education and Specialist High Skills Major programs.
In addition to the online sessions, DDSB schools are also hosting in-person course selection evenings at several secondary schools across the region, giving families the option to attend either virtually or in person depending on their needs.
The information nights are intended to support families ahead of winter course-selection activities and follow the launch of the 30 Credits My Way program in January 2025, which was introduced to help students adapt to updated provincial graduation requirements.
