The Durham Regional Police Service is searching for four men believed to be part of an organized crime group responsible for at least 20 home break-and-enters in Whitby, Ontario. Investigators launched an investigation dubbed “Project Sonoma” to track the group after a series of break-ins took place between November 2025 and February 2026.
Police say the suspects typically entered homes by smashing rear sliding glass doors. Once inside, they focused on the master bedroom to find and steal high-value items.
The three men still being sought are 25-year-old Ion Dulceanu, 31-year-old Madalin-Florin Moldoveanu, and 52-year-old Ionel Dumitru, who are all from Toronto. A fourth suspect, 55-year-old Victor Duduianu from Oshawa, is already in the custody of another police service but faces charges for the Whitby incidents.
All four men are facing 20 counts of breaking and entering in Whitby. Members of the group also face more than 60 combined charges for similar crimes in Toronto, Halton Region, and York Region. Authorities are asking residents to review their home security and share any relevant camera footage that could help the investigation.
