The Town of Whitby has confirmed the Fieldgate Sports Complex on the west side of Baldwin Street South, just south of Highway 407, will open in mid-2026, a shift from earlier projections of late 2025. The $155-million facility, formally named under a 10-year, $1.5-million naming-rights agreement with Fieldgate Homes, is poised to become a major recreation hub for Durham Region.
Construction crews poured concrete for one of the two arena ice pads in April 2025, and the pool structure was described as nearly complete in July 2025, according to the Connect Whitby project page. Next steps include fitting out the 10-lane, 25-metre pool and finishing the gymnasium, which will feature a three-lane indoor walking track.
Outside, Roybrook Park will include the town’s first multi-purpose artificial turf field, lit pickleball and tennis courts, a skatepark and a pump track. The outdoor park and courts remain part of the ongoing construction program.
Local sports groups say they will rely on existing facilities like the Iroquois Park Sports Centre and the McKinney Centre through the 2025–26 winter season, as the complex is expected to be integrated into facility scheduling for the Fall 2026 season. The Whitby Minor Hockey Association and Whitby Iroquois Swim Club expect the new ice time and the region’s largest pool to ease scheduling pressures and open up more registration slots.
“The Fieldgate Sports Complex is on track and looking amazing. This accessible, net-zero carbon facility is a testament to our commitment to a healthy, sustainable community,” said Mayor Elizabeth Roy. The town has not yet published a specific program-registration timeline tied to the new complex.
