Residents and sports teams in Whitby, Ontario, can now book ice time at municipal arenas through a new self-serve online platform. The Town of Whitby has launched CatchCorner, a system powered by Sports Illustrated that allows users to reserve one-off ice rentals directly through a website or mobile app, moving away from traditional permit processes.
The new service is designed to make it easier for community members to secure ice for activities like pickup games, practices, or birthday parties. The platform, which was founded in 2019 by siblings Jonathan and Maya Azouri, now operates in 16 metropolitan areas across Canada and the United States.
This digital booking option is available for the town’s three existing arena facilities: the Iroquois Park Sports Centre, which is the largest municipally owned multi-use sports complex in Canada; the McKinney Centre; and the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena in Brooklin. These facilities remain subject to the town’s established Ice Allocation Policy, which sets specific priorities for groups like the Whitby Minor Hockey Association, the Whitby Girls Hockey Association, and the Whitby Ringette Association, among other local organizations.
Current rental rates at these facilities are set at $255.10 per hour plus tax for prime time and $135.28 per hour plus tax for non-prime time. Discounted rates are available for designated minor sports organizations. Residents should note that these rates are set to increase on May 1, 2026.
The move to a digital booking system comes as the town continues to expand its sports infrastructure. The new Whitby Sports Complex, which is currently under construction, is expected to open in 2026 and will add two additional ice pads to the community inventory.
