The Durham District School Board has closed all DDSB schools and work sites across the Durham Region for Monday, January 26, 2026, due to a severe winter storm. The system-wide shutdown means buildings are closed to students and staff and students must stay home.
All school-based before- and after-school child care programs are cancelled for the day. Environment Canada issued orange-level winter storm warnings for the region and warned of widespread totals of roughly 20–40 cm, with local amounts potentially near or exceeding 60 cm; parts of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area reported snowfall in the 40–60 cm range, making travel unsafe.
Durham Student Transportation Services confirmed buses in all zones will not operate today. The DDSB said the decision to close sites was made because the heavy snowfall and the anticipated storm aftermath would hamper snow clearing and emergency-vehicle access.
The storm has disrupted travel and services across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and parts of southern Ontario, with local media reporting hazardous road conditions. Families are advised to contact their childcare providers (for example, YMCA or PRYDE) about whether credits or refunds will be offered for the missed day.
