Residents of Whitchurch-Stouffville who have been victims of property theft are being asked to check a new collection of recovered items to see if any of their belongings were recently found by police. The York Regional Police Integrated Property Crime Task Force recovered the electronics, tools, and jewelry as part of an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of stolen goods.
This effort, known as Project Payday, is a direct result of a wider police investigation into residential break-ins that occurred across the region. Victims of home break-ins that took place between October 2025 and February 2026 can view photos of the recovered property online through a dedicated digital gallery. Those who believe they recognize their property are encouraged to contact the task force at 1-866-876-5423, extension 7232, to begin the verification process.
The current investigation follows the previous Project Lone Wolf, which ran from October 2024 to November 2025 and focused on a string of break-ins where suspects allegedly used radio frequency jammers to disable home security systems. On March 19, 2026, police arrested 73-year-old Tamashwar Singh of Caledon in connection with the trafficking of items stolen during these events. He currently faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for the purpose of trafficking.
Local police efforts are supported by officers operating out of the Whitchurch-Stouffville Community Substation at 111 Sandiford Drive. This facility is part of the #5 District, which provides law enforcement services to approximately 376,500 residents across Whitchurch-Stouffville and Markham.
According to recent reports, the region has seen a downward trend in several crime categories. During the first half of 2025, residential and commercial break-ins in the area declined by 11 percent, while vehicle thefts and carjackings saw reductions of 37 percent and 49 percent, respectively. Police officials have attributed these improvements to the work of specialized units, such as the Integrated Property Crime Task Force, which has a track record of recovering stolen valuables.
