Whitchurch-Stouffville town leaders are meeting on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, to discuss a significant new housing development and a request for additional snow removal funding. The afternoon session is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Council Chambers located at 111 Sandiford Drive.
A primary focus of the meeting is the Hammerford development, a proposal to build 90 townhouse dwellings near the intersection of Aurora Road and Highway 48. Councillors will vote on several by-laws and reports to re-designate the land and move the subdivision project forward. If approved, the project would shift the area from a “Village” designation to a “Highway 48 Corridor Residential” zone.
In addition to housing, the town is addressing the costs of winter maintenance. Staff are requesting an additional $296,500 in funding for sidewalk winter maintenance and windrow clearing services. This extra spending, necessitated by current contract demands, is proposed to be drawn from the town’s Tax Rate Stabilization Reserve.
The agenda also includes preparations for the upcoming municipal election cycle, which officially begins in May 2026. Councillors will review By-law 2026-014-RE, which updates the rules regarding election signs within the municipality. Other items on the schedule include a project update on “Whistle Cessation” for local trains and a closed-session discussion regarding collective bargaining with Teamsters Local 419.
Residents who wish to participate in the meeting can submit a “Deputation Request Form” by 9:00 a.m. the day of the meeting. For those who cannot attend in person, the session will be live-streamed at townofws.ca/cmlivestream, with a video recording made available on the town’s website following the meeting.
