The York Catholic District School Board is looking for new French Immersion teachers to fill several full-time, temporary positions serving students in the York Region, including those in the Whitchurch-Stouffville area. Between February 6 and February 10, 2026, the board posted job openings to ensure classrooms remain staffed as interest in bilingual programs continues to grow.

The board is currently hiring for a Grade 1 teacher at St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School in Thornhill, a Grade 5 and 6 teacher at St. Elizabeth Seton in Newmarket, and a Grade 6 and 7 teacher at St. Marguerite d’Youville in Richmond Hill. These positions are described as long-term occasional roles, which provide immediate opportunities for qualified educators to work in full-time classroom settings within the board’s regional French Immersion network.

These hires come at a time when schools across the province are dealing with a shortage of qualified teachers who can speak French as a second language. In Whitchurch-Stouffville, the board relies on its regional staff and programs to support students, including those attending the local Blessed Chiara Badano Catholic Elementary School.

Keeping these roles filled is a priority for the board to ensure students have the same teacher throughout the year. Elizabeth Crowe, the trustee for Aurora, King, and Whitchurch-Stouffville, helps oversee these staffing efforts as the community grows. The board is currently led by Chair Maria Iafrate.
