Public works crews in Whitecourt, Alberta, began clearing heavy snow from Sunset Boulevard and other busy streets on February 3, 2026. This work is part of a plan to keep main transit and school bus routes open after a winter season with significant snowfall.

According to Drew Hadfield, the town’s Director of Infrastructure, crews are using two snow blowers, two graders and three loaders, and are moving approximately 40 to 42 loads of snow per hour to ensure that high-traffic areas remain safe for drivers.

The Town of Whitecourt is asking residents to watch for temporary “No Parking” signs; when posted the restriction takes effect at 12:00 a.m. Vehicles left on the street may be fined or towed because they block heavy equipment and slow the clearing process.

This push for cleaner roads follows a meeting in January where local leaders reviewed the community’s snow removal rules. Mayor Ray Hilts and town council have prioritized main routes to make sure emergency vehicles and public transit can travel through town without getting stuck.
