BC Transit was named one of British Columbia’s Top Employers on Feb. 10, 2026 — its sixth consecutive year on the list — a designation BC Transit and regional observers say could help recruitment and potentially improve service reliability in communities such as Williams Lake, where driver shortages have previously led to cancelled trips.
The recognition comes from Mediacorp Canada Inc.’s Canada’s Top Employers project and highlights workplace policies such as benefits, professional development and employee supports. BC Transit says this focus on staff retention is intended to help the City of Williams Lake reduce the risk of driver shortages and trip cancellations that have occurred in past years.
BC Transit says it uses awards like this in recruitment campaigns to attract and retain employees in a competitive labour market. Erinn Pinkerton, President and CEO of BC Transit, is the agency’s primary spokesperson on workforce and strategic issues; BC Transit has emphasized that such recognitions support efforts to build long-term careers at the agency.
BC Transit is also pursuing a province-wide shift toward electric buses, which the agency says will require specialized training for mechanics and operators. Maintaining its Top Employer status is one of the tools BC Transit cites to help retain the skilled staff needed to run reliable routes for students and commuters who depend on local bus service.
