Operations at the Winkler grain processing facility have officially transitioned to new ownership, following a series of licensing updates from the Canadian Grain Commission. As of April 1, 2026, Scoular Canada, ULC no longer holds a primary elevator licence at the site, while Orenda Commodity Services Ltd. has been granted a new process elevator licence for the same location.
This change follows the January 19, 2026, closing of a deal in which the Ste. Agathe-based Orenda Commodity Services Ltd. purchased Scoular’s sunflower and wild bird food blending business. The acquisition includes the Winkler processing facility, which had been operated by Scoular since the company relocated its Canadian bird food operations there from Winnipeg in 2020.
Orenda Commodity Services Ltd. is a family-owned, vertically integrated company that specializes in wild bird food blending, packaging, and logistics. The business employs approximately 80 people across four locations in Manitoba.
While the company is no longer licensed at the Winkler site, Scoular Canada, ULC continues to operate in Canada, maintaining grain dealer and primary elevator licences at other locations, including its Netley Elevator in Petersfield, Manitoba, and its facility in Richardson, Saskatchewan.
