As of March 27, 2026, health officials have issued a public health warning for several locations in Winkler, Manitoba, following a large increase in measles cases. The region is currently facing its most significant outbreak in years, with local sites being identified as potential areas where the virus may have spread.

There have been 319 confirmed and 45 probable cases of measles in the province as of March 14, 2026, which is already more than the total number of cases reported in all of 2025. Manitoba currently leads the country in measles infections, accounting for more than half of all cases nationwide this year.

According to Manitoba Health, exposure sites in the community include the C.W. Wiebe Medical Centre, Central Station Community Centre, Pathway Community Church, and Boundary Trails Health Centre. These exposures happened between late February and March 19, 2026, and residents who visited these locations are encouraged to check their vaccination records.

Southern Health-Santé Sud officials report that the region has the lowest vaccination rates in the province, with just over half of seven-year-olds protected against the disease. People who were at an exposure site and are not vaccinated can still receive a preventative treatment within six days of the event to help stop the infection from developing.

Data from Doctors Manitoba shows that nearly 84 per cent of cases since last year have occurred in people who were not vaccinated. To help protect the most vulnerable, the provincial government has now made the vaccine available for infants between six and 12 months old in the region.
