Tristan Peters, who grew up in Winkler, Manitoba, has earned a spot on the Chicago White Sox team for the 2026 season opener. The team announced on March 25, 2026, that Peters will be one of the outfielders on the squad as they begin play against the Milwaukee Brewers. The first game is set to take place at American Family Field on March 26, 2026.

The team finalized its 26-man roster after a successful pre-season where Peters showed strong skills in both hitting and fielding. The 26-year-old athlete joined the Chicago organization in December 2025 following a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, where he first played in the major leagues.

Peters has had a steady journey to the top level of the sport since being drafted in 2021. He remains the first person from Manitoba to be picked in the professional baseball draft in several years, after originally being selected out of university by the Brewers organization.

The news has brought a sense of pride to the city of Winkler, which is home to about 13,745 people. Local residents have shared the news online to celebrate the rare achievement of a local athlete reaching the highest level of professional sports.
