The application for an Addiction Recovery Service Home at 395 Riverview Road in Yorkton, Saskatchewan has been withdrawn, cancelling the public feedback session that was scheduled for the August 10, 2026 Council Meeting.
The City of Yorkton confirmed the withdrawal in a public notice, stating that residents who had registered to speak or submitted comments have been contacted directly. Their input will still be circulated to Council outside the public meeting package.
The proposal came from Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres, an Alberta-based organization that had purchased two properties in Yorkton under a five-year agreement with the Saskatchewan government. One property, at 7 Driftwood Crescent, was denied a zoning amendment by council on July 13, 2026. The Riverview Road property was already zoned for commercial uses that permit health services, and council had tabled that matter until August 10.
Mayor Aaron Kienle expressed disappointment at the withdrawal, saying recovery services are needed in the community. “These are recovery services needed in our community and supported by the provincial government,” Kienle said.
The Saskatchewan government has been expanding addiction recovery services in Yorkton, including 15 mobile withdrawal management spaces announced in June 2026. The province’s action plan targets 500 new recovery spaces province-wide.
