The Government of Saskatchewan announced on February 26, 2026, that it is giving $600,000 to help finish a major heritage project in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. This money will complete a new visitor building at the Yorkton Brick Flour Mill on Livingstone Street, which will turn the historic site into a year-round attraction for the community.
The grant is the final piece of funding needed for the $3.2 million project to restore the mill and build the new visitor centre. Once it is finished later in 2026, the building will provide a fully accessible space for school groups, seniors, and families to gather and learn about the local history of farming.
Construction workers finished the outside of the new building in the fall of 2025. Crews are now spending the spring and summer of 2026 finishing the inside of the structure, which includes installing the electrical and plumbing systems.
The project is also supported by $1 million from the federal government and $300,000 from the City of Yorkton. The Yorkton Tribal Council contributed $100,000 to the project to help tell the history of the area before it was settled by farmers.
The Yorkton Brick Flour Mill is the only mill of its kind left in Western Canada. When the work is done, the site will offer educational programs and space for the community to rent for local events and meetings.
