Residents of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, have just three days left to weigh in on a draft plan that will guide the look and function of the city’s downtown and West Broadway corridor for the next decade. The City of Yorkton’s online survey closes on July 10, 2026, and officials are urging anyone who lives, works, or spends time in the area to share their thoughts before the deadline.
The Downtown and West Broadway Corridor Redevelopment Plan Update is an overhaul of the original plan adopted back in 2005. City staff say that 21-year-old document is now “creating policy problems and gaps.” The new draft addresses land-use directions, streetscape improvements, parking changes, and housing options for the core area. Nearly 500 people participated in a first round of input earlier this year, and their feedback helped shape what’s on the table now.
The draft plan comes from consulting firms V3 Companies of Canada and Wallace Insights, who were awarded the contract in October 2025. Elisa Stamatakis serves as the project lead from V3. On the city side, Michael Eger, Yorkton’s Director of Planning, Building and Development, is the primary contact. A pop-up engagement booth was held at the Downtown CultureFest on June 25 at City Centre Park, but the online survey remains the main way for people to have their say until July 10.
Key issues the plan aims to tackle include ongoing vacancies near rail corridors, heritage buildings that make redevelopment trickier, parking headaches for shoppers and business owners, and how online shopping has changed retail patterns downtown. Once finalized later this summer, the plan will directly influence updates to Yorkton’s Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw, as well as how the city spends capital dollars in the core over the next 10 years.
Mayor Aaron Kienle, elected in November 2024, and the six city councillors will ultimately review and adopt the final plan. Residents can find the draft and the survey link on the city’s Shape Your City engagement website.
