The Government of Saskatchewan announced on March 10, 2026, that it is providing a record-setting amount of funding to Yorkton and other communities across the province. This year, the province will distribute $392.4 million to cities, towns, villages, rural municipalities, and northern communities to help pay for local services and projects.
This total is an 8 per cent increase over last year, which means there is $30.7 million more available for local governments. These funds are provided as unconditional grants that local councils can use to address their own priorities, such as fixing roads, improving parks, or supporting core services.
Minister of Government Relations Eric Schmalz says the funding is meant to support the places where people live, work, and raise their families. The money is part of a revenue sharing program that provides predictable support to municipalities based on three-quarters of one point of provincial sales tax revenue from two years ago.
While the total provincial amount is confirmed, the specific dollar amount for Yorkton and surrounding municipalities will be announced shortly. Residents can see the exact funding levels for their specific community when the provincial budget is released on March 18, 2026.
