On March 5, 2026, the Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities announced over $46 million for 41 rural road, bridge, and culvert projects near Yorkton and across the province. This investment is designed to make regional travel smoother for residents and ensure agricultural products can be moved safely to market.

The funding is provided through the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth program. The provincial government is contributing more than $16.9 million toward the work, while local rural municipalities will pay for the remaining $29.1 million.

Under this initiative, the province covers up to half of the cost for each project. The maximum amount of provincial support is $500,000 for a road and $1 million for a bridge or a large drainage pipe, also known as a culvert.

Highways Minister Kim Gartner said that the rural road network is the starting point for many goods heading to destinations across the country and around the world. These upgrades are intended to better connect local roads to the rest of the provincial transportation system to support the economy.

Families and businesses in the Yorkton area can expect to see an increase in construction activity as local municipalities begin managing these infrastructure repairs. The work aims to reduce delays caused by road conditions and improve safety for heavy trucks and everyday drivers.
