The City of Yorkton issued a warning on February 18, 2026, to alert business owners in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, about a scam involving fake emails that impersonate the Yorkton Terriers hockey team. These fraudulent messages often include fake invoices or requests for sponsorship money meant to trick local companies into sending funds.

The active phishing attempt was shared by the city and later spread by GX94 Radio to help ensure the community stays informed. Officials are advising business owners to tighten their email security and double-check any unusual requests before taking action.

This local warning follows a series of similar digital scams reported across the province this month. According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, residents have recently been targeted by fraudulent emails pretending to be from government fine collection branches.

The utility provider SaskPower also issued a recent alert regarding bogus emails that ask for financial information or security updates. Local officials recommend that businesses verify any unexpected financial requests by contacting the organization directly through a known secondary contact method.

Business owners who receive suspicious messages should report them to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre to help prevent further financial loss. These precautions are intended to stop local corporate email accounts from being compromised by digital fraud.
