The Western Development Museum Yorkton is hosting a public event for families on Sunday, February 15, 2026, to celebrate local heritage in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. This afternoon of activities offers residents a low-cost way to connect with the history of the region through hands-on displays and special interactive programming.
The event features a theme called Dress To Impress, which focuses on historical fashion from the museum’s Made in Canada collection. Visitors can see different types of clothing from the past and learn about how people in the community used to dress. This hands-on part of the museum allows families to explore history in a more personal and direct way.
The Yorkton Genealogy Society will also be at the museum to help people research their own family roots and history. This collaboration fits with the museum’s overall theme, The Story of People, which highlights the experiences of the many different immigrant groups that settled in the province during its first 100 years.
Children can spend time in the Time Square area, which is specifically designed with sections for playing, learning, shopping, and working. Another feature for younger visitors is the In a Prairie Attic exhibit, which showcases the Bladon Family toys and shows what children played with during the early 20th-century.
This community gathering serves as a cultural kickoff for Heritage Week and takes place just before the Saskatchewan Family Day holiday on February 16, 2026. The event is meant to celebrate the multicultural background and diverse immigrant experiences that helped build the local Yorkton area.
