The Government of Saskatchewan has declared May 25 to 29, 2026 as Saskatchewan Tourism Week, celebrating an industry that brings in $3 billion each year and provides jobs for more than 61,000 residents during the busy summer months. For the Yorkton area, the week highlights the parks, museums, and outdoor activities that draw visitors and encourage locals to explore nearby destinations.
Just 48 kilometres northwest of the city, Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park remains a cornerstone of regional tourism. With more than 200 campsites, a sandy beach, and trails through rolling sand dunes, the park offers swimming, fishing, beach volleyball, mini-golf, and tennis courts. Whether for a weekend camping trip or an afternoon swim, it is one of the area’s most popular summer spots.
Yorkton itself has plenty for visitors and staycationers. The Western Development Museum takes people through prairie history, while the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery features changing exhibits. On warm days, families head to the Access Communications Co-operative Water Park, and the Painted Hand Casino provides indoor entertainment. For those who prefer a quiet walk, the Ravine Ecological Preserve offers trails right inside the city.
Tourism Saskatchewan is encouraging everyone to plan a summer road trip and find something new close to home. CEO Jonathan Potts pointed out that several Saskatchewan operators recently won national recognition at the Canadian Tourism Awards and the Indigenous Tourism Awards, showing the province’s tourism experiences hold their own on a national stage.
With millions of dollars flowing through the industry and tens of thousands of jobs depending on it, Saskatchewan Tourism Week is a reminder that the next great getaway could be just a short drive away.
