Property owners in Yorkton have until Tuesday, May 5, 2026, to file an appeal if they believe their 2026 property assessment is incorrect. The City of Yorkton is reminding residents that the deadline for appeals is fast approaching, and has outlined the steps to follow before submitting a formal request.
The appeal process begins with a discussion with the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA). Property owners are encouraged to call SAMA at 306-786-1370 or 1-800-498-0576 to review their assessment and address any concerns with an appraiser. If the issue remains unresolved, owners can then file a formal appeal with the Board of Revision. Appeals must be submitted by the May 5 deadline to be considered.
This year’s appeal process follows a provincial revaluation that updated property assessments based on market values as of January 1, 2023. The new values will remain in effect until the end of 2028. The revaluation, combined with a recent residential re-inspection program, has led to changes in many assessments, prompting some property owners to question their valuations.
Filing an appeal requires a fee, which varies by property type. Residential, condominium, and agricultural properties have a $100 fee, while commercial properties range from $300 to $600, depending on the assessed value. Property owners should note that even if they file an appeal, their property taxes are still due by June 30, 2026 to avoid penalties. Any adjustments resulting from a successful appeal will be applied retroactively.
The Board of Revision for Yorkton in 2026 is Western Municipal Consulting Ltd. (WMC), an independent body appointed by city council to hear appeals impartially. If a property owner disagrees with the Board of Revision’s decision, they can escalate the matter to the Saskatchewan Municipal Board’s Assessment Appeals Committee and, ultimately, the Court of Appeal if necessary.
Property owners are reminded that the Board of Revision only handles disputes over the assessed value or classification of a property—not the amount of taxes owed. Tax rates are set by Yorkton City Council, and the appeal process does not impact tax policy.
