The City of Yorkton is processing applications for its new Water Focus Group, following a March 15, 2026, deadline for residents to apply. This initiative provides community members a formal platform to share feedback on water services, planned infrastructure repairs, and potential adjustments to utility bills.
The City of Yorkton administration sought this public input as it implements the 2026 budget. Approved in January 2026, the budget includes a 3.85 per cent property tax increase for local owners, a move aimed at balancing essential service delivery with the maintenance of aging infrastructure.
The water utility remains the largest self-sustaining service operated by the city, with projected revenues exceeding $17 million for the 2026 fiscal year. Because the utility generates sufficient revenue to cover its operating and capital costs, the city is utilizing the focus group to inform decisions regarding high-priority, long-term projects.
Major initiatives slated for 2026 include comprehensive sewer system condition assessments and the continuation of design work for the renewal of the H.M. Bailey Water Pollution Control Plant. The focus group will also review the city’s infrastructure management strategies and discuss future utility rate structures.
Yorkton City Council will integrate the group’s findings into its process for setting utility rates and finalizing long-term financial plans. The initiative is intended to enhance transparency and public participation in how the city manages its most significant utility assets.
