The Barrie Public Library is celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, with a series of free community resources in Barrie, Ontario. This year, the library is using the theme “Give To Gain” to focus on how supporting others helps the whole community move toward gender equality.
To help residents learn more, the library has put together special reading lists for adults and children that highlight the social and economic contributions of women. Families can also find activity cards and word searches, while digital learners can access films and professional training tools about overcoming bias in the workplace.
Local advocacy groups are also getting involved, with the Women’s & Children’s Shelter of Barrie hosting a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. This event takes place on March 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM and serves as a public show of support for women’s rights and parity.
These activities are part of a busy month at the library, which also includes French language learning sessions and various programs for families during March Break. All these materials are available to the public for free to encourage learning and community connection.
