The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to help with the CIBC Run for the Cure in Barrie on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The event is Canada’s largest single-day, volunteer-led fundraiser for breast cancer, and organizers say having enough help is essential for the day to run smoothly.
Volunteer roles include set-up, registration, route marshal, green team, and other positions. People can choose a specific role and shifts that fit their schedule. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old, and the opportunity is suitable for families, groups, students, and seniors.
Applications are open now through Volunteer Barrie and volunteercancer.ca. The Barrie event is one of more than 50 Run for the Cure events across Canada.
Last year’s Barrie/Orillia event raised more than $188,000 for breast cancer research and support services. Funds raised through the event support local breast cancer initiatives in Simcoe and Muskoka, including access to free wigs and transportation to and from appointments for people affected by the disease.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Canada. An estimated 32,400 women are expected to be diagnosed in 2026, making up 26 per cent of all new cancer cases in women. The Run for the Cure has helped cut the breast cancer death rate nearly in half since its peak in the late 1980s, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.
