Manitoba Health issued a public notice on March 3, 2026, regarding a potential measles exposure at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba. Residents who visited the emergency department waiting room are being asked to check their medical records and watch for signs of illness to help prevent the virus from spreading further in the community.
According to the provincial government’s Measles Update #84, the exposure occurred at the hospital located at 316 Henry St. Officials identified the emergency waiting room as the specific area where people may have come into contact with the virus in the days leading up to the announcement.
Public health officials recommend that anyone who was at the hospital during this time verify their vaccination history, specifically for the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. People should also monitor themselves for symptoms like a high fever, cough, or a red blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads down the body.
This latest update follows a series of similar health advisories across the province as officials track the transmission of the virus. Local residents unsure of their immunization status should contact a pharmacy for a booster; however, those who begin to feel unwell should call their family doctor or Health Links (204-788-8200) for an assessment. To prevent further community spread, symptomatic individuals must call ahead before visiting any clinical site rather than visiting a pharmacy in person.
