Students across Renfrew County, Ontario, could be removed from their classrooms next month if their families do not provide updated vaccination records or a legal exemption. The Renfrew County and District Health Unit announced that students between the ages of 4 and 17 have until the morning of April 15, 2026, to submit the necessary paperwork.
Under provincial law, all students must be immunized against nine specific diseases to attend school, including measles, mumps, and polio. The health unit is currently mailing out second notices and formal suspension orders to families who are still missing information in their files.
To help families meet the deadline, health officials are hosting immunization clinics in Pembroke and other locations throughout the region. These clinics offer a chance for students to get any missing shots and for parents to update their records directly with health staff.
If the required documentation is not received by the April deadline, school principals will be required to enforce the suspension orders. This process is part of a standard yearly review to ensure that all students are protected against preventable illnesses while they are at school.
Parents who receive a notice are encouraged to contact the health unit as soon as possible to confirm their child’s status. Keeping these records up-to-date helps prevent the spread of disease and ensures that students do not miss any time in the classroom.
