Pembroke, Ontario, and nearby areas are under a Special Weather Statement as Environment Canada warns of 50 to 100 mm of heavy rainfall through Wednesday morning, July 29, 2026. A low pressure system is expected to stall over the region, bringing multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms that could lead to localized flooding.
The weather agency notes that rainfall amounts will vary widely, but some areas may see totals approaching 100 mm. Because the rain is convective, conditions can change quickly, and rainfall warnings may be upgraded as the situation develops.
Residents should be aware of rising water levels in low-lying areas and near the Ottawa River. The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board manages reservoirs to reduce flood impacts along the river, while Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources – Pembroke District issues flood warnings for the stretch from Pembroke to Arnprior.
Pembroke has a history of significant flooding. In May 2019, the Ottawa River broke a 59-year-old record, reaching 113.68 metres above sea level and prompting a city-wide state of emergency. Major flooding also occurred in 2017 and 2023. This past spring, the river hit minor flooding levels in Pembroke, with major flooding possible downstream.
