The City of Owen Sound, Ontario, has finished collecting names for its top volunteer honour after nominations for the 2026 Jan Chamberlain Volunteer of the Year Award closed on March 1, 2026. This recognition highlights residents who give their time to help the local community.
The award was renamed in late 2025 to honour the memory of Jan Chamberlain, a local resident known for her work as a community builder. Members of the Community Services Committee will now review the submissions to select a winner who has shown exceptional commitment to helping others.
A formal ceremony to present the award is set for April 16, 2026, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. This event will happen at the same time as the Arts and Culture Awards to celebrate a wide range of local contributions in one ceremony.
Mayor Ian Boddy has praised the program as a way for the city to officially thank those who work to improve the area. The upcoming reception will bring together volunteers and local leaders to recognize their positive impact on the city.
