Teachers in Colwood and across British Columbia have a new provincial contract after the BC Teachers’ Federation voted to approve a new agreement on Thursday, March 5, 2026. This decision aims to bring more stability to local schools and provides updated terms for pay and working conditions for educators.
The deal covers more than 52,000 teachers who work in public schools throughout the province. It includes extra funding to hire more counsellors, learning assistance teachers, and special education resource teachers to help students and manage the workload for staff.
This agreement follows a provincial plan called the 2025 Balanced Measures Mandate, which focuses on protecting services like education while balancing the budget. Following the vote by teachers, the 60 school boards in the province are set to vote on the final approval on Friday, March 6, 2026.
For parents in Colwood, the new terms are expected to result in clearer classroom support and consistent programming for students. By adding specialized staff, the agreement seeks to ensure that every student gets the specific help they need during the school day.
