On March 4, 2026, Fuerte Metals Corporation awarded a major contract to build a new all-season road connecting a gold project to the highway network in Dawson City, Yukon. The project will create a 214-kilometre gravel route between the city and the mine site, which is located about 130 kilometres to the northwest.
A Yukon-based company, Cobalt Construction Inc., has been chosen to lead the work. The road is expected to cost C$77 million and will take about two years to finish, providing a boost to the local economy through jobs and the purchase of supplies and equipment.
Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2026 once the Government of Yukon provides the required permits. Officials from the government have indicated that these permits should be issued soon so construction can start as planned.
The company is also in talks with the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation to formalize a partnership for the project. This collaboration aims to ensure that the road development provides benefits to the local community while meeting environmental and social standards in the region. Fuerte has also pledged to continue building relationships with other First Nations whose traditional territories overlap with the route.
