Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for Owen Sound, Ontario, as significant rainfall is expected to start the night of Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Residents can expect between 20 to 40 mm of rain through Wednesday, March 11, with the potential for higher amounts if thunderstorms develop.
Forecasters are concerned that the ground is currently frozen or soaked, which means it will have very little ability to absorb the new rain. This situation increases the risk of flash flooding and could cause water to pool on local roadways and in low-lying areas.
The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority already has active flood watches in place following a period of heavy rain on March 7, 2026. At that time, officials noted that local waterways were already overwhelmed and rivers were flowing faster and higher than anticipated.
Local residents are advised to monitor weather updates and stay clear of fast-moving water as the storm passes through the community. Officials expect the rain to continue until Wednesday evening.
