The Durham District School Board is holding several public meetings in Whitby, Ontario, to hear from the community about the education spending plan for the 2026-2027 school year. These sessions give families and residents a chance to see how the board plans to fund classrooms, school services, and staffing for the upcoming year. This process helps determine which programs and resources will be prioritized for students across the region.
The meetings take place at the board’s Education Centre on April 13, May 12, and June 2, 2026. An additional meeting is also possible on June 8, 2026, if more time is needed to finish the budget discussions. Local residents can attend these sessions in person to stay informed about how local tax dollars are being used for public education.
Residents can share their views by sending in a written message or by making a presentation to the Education Finance Committee during the April or June sessions. This committee is responsible for reviewing the draft budget before it is finalized. All meetings will also be available for the public to watch through a live-streamed video.
Anyone wishing to speak at a meeting must register with the board’s executive assistant, Kristin Talbot, by noon on April 7, 2026, for the first session. A second deadline for the June meeting is set for noon on May 27, 2026. Participants are encouraged to sign up early to ensure their feedback is included in the decision-making process.
