The City of Colwood, British Columbia, voted unanimously on March 5, 2026, to move forward with a project to expand the West Shore RCMP detachment. The decision allows for the construction of a new five-storey building in Langford to handle the needs of the region’s growing population.
The project has a construction target of $87.5 million, with the total borrowing limit set at $103 million by the Capital Regional District. To ensure the project stays on track, the council put “guard rails” in place—extra financial rules that require regular reporting on spending and progress.
The new building will more than double the size of the current office space for officers. This expansion is designed to improve emergency response times and provide the tools needed to maintain community safety as the West Shore grows.
The detachment provides police services for residents in Colwood, Langford, View Royal, Metchosin, and Highlands. It also serves the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations as part of a shared effort to support safety across the region.
