Poppy Moon, a student at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, recently competed against the top runners in the country. On March 6, 2026, she represented the school at the national university track and field championships held in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Moon was part of the X-Women’s relay team for the 4×800-metre race. According to StFX Athletics, Moon and her teammates finished the race in eighth place with a time of 9:02.16.
The competition brought together the best university athletes from across Canada. Moon, who is a chemistry student, had to balance a difficult academic schedule with the intense daily training required to reach the national level.
The StFX women’s track and field team finished the entire competition in 11th place overall. The team earned a total of 22 points across four different events during the championships.
Other notable performances from the Antigonish-based team included bronze medals for Caroline Ash in the 1500-metre race and Eileen Benoit in the 3000-metre race. The university highlights these achievements as a sign of the hard work put in by local student-athletes.
