The Hanover School Division Board of Trustees has approved a $146.7 million budget for the 2026-27 school year to support a growing number of students in Steinbach, Manitoba. The plan, passed in March 2026, includes money for daily school operations and building costs to prepare for nearly 300 additional full-time students expected this fall.
This new budget represents a 7.4 per cent increase in spending compared to the previous year. While funding from the provincial government is set to rise by 4.1 per cent, the local board is increasing its own spending to keep up with the rapid growth of the community.
The extra funding is needed to manage a projected increase of 298.5 full-time students across the district. In December 2025, the Board of Trustees previously changed school boundaries to help deal with overcrowding at Steinbach Regional Secondary School.
The division is also making staffing changes to prepare for the new school year, including the appointment of Joel Bergen as the new principal of Clearspring Middle School. The overall budget aims to ensure there are enough teachers and resources for the increasing number of families moving into the region.
