The City of Waterloo, Ontario, is banning all street parking in the university district on March 14 and March 17, 2026, to manage large crowds and keep roads clear during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. This measure is part of a declared “Community Safety Event” that aims to ensure emergency vehicles can move through the area without delays.
The parking ban will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on both days within the zone bordered by Columbia Street West, Weber Street North, Bridgeport Road East, and Albert Street. Any vehicles found parked on the street in this area during the restricted times will be ticketed and towed. This enforcement is part of the Post-Secondary District Safety Initiative, which helps manage high-traffic student neighbourhoods.
Wilfrid Laurier University has also announced its own increased security and campus parking restrictions from March 9 through March 17, 2026. These coordinated efforts between the city and the university are designed to maintain safety for all residents and visitors throughout the week.
